The flashlight won't turn on

Another app may be holding the camera. Close any camera, video-call or barcode-scanner app running in the background, then try again. If it still fails, restart the phone — the LED is a shared hardware resource and can stay locked after an app crashes.

A small number of devices have no rear LED flash at all. On those, use Screen Light instead, which turns the display itself into a lamp.

How do I set up flash alerts for calls and messages?

Open the app, go to Flash Alerts, and turn it on. Android will ask you to grant notification access — this is what lets the app know an alert arrived so it can blink the LED. Then pick which apps should trigger a flash and set the blink speed.

Why does flash alerts need notification access?

Android does not tell an app that a call or message arrived unless you explicitly grant that access. Without it there is no way for the LED to react to alerts. The app uses only the fact that a notification occurred and which app posted it, so it can respect your app filter. It does not read the content of your messages, and nothing about the notification leaves your device. See the Flash alerts section of our Privacy Policy.

Flash alerts stopped working after a while

Some devices (e.g. Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung with aggressive battery saving) shut down background services to save power. Open Settings → Apps → LumaFlash, allow notifications, and disable or relax battery optimization for the app. On Xiaomi/Oppo also enable Autostart.

The flash is dimmer than expected, or turns itself off

Brightness is limited by your phone's LED hardware, and the brightness slider only has an effect on devices that expose that control. Many phones also cut the torch automatically when the battery is low or the device gets hot — this is Android protecting the hardware, not a bug in the app.

Does the app upload my data?

Your settings stay on your device, and notification events are processed in memory and discarded. Because the free app is ad-supported, we use Google Firebase, Google AdMob, Adjust and the Meta (Facebook) SDK, which process limited device and advertising identifiers for analytics, crash reporting, attribution and ads.

How do I stop seeing personalized ads?

If a consent prompt appeared when you first opened the app, you can decline personalized ads there. You can also reset or opt out of your Advertising ID in Android via Settings → Privacy → Ads. Clearing the app's data will let the consent prompt appear again.

Does the app cost anything? Are there subscriptions?

The app is free and supported by ads. There are currently no in-app purchases or subscriptions, so there is nothing to cancel or restore.

How do I revoke a permission I granted?

Go to Settings → Apps → LumaFlash → Permissions and toggle off anything you don't want. Notification access is revoked separately, under Settings → Notifications → Device & app notifications. The flashlight, screen light, SOS and strobe keep working without any optional permission.

How do I delete my data?

Clear the app's storage (Settings → Apps → LumaFlash → Storage → Clear data) or uninstall the app to remove on-device settings. To request deletion of any data held by us or our partners, email us and we'll respond within 30 days.

Is the strobe safe to use?

Please use the party strobe and SOS signal with care. Rapidly flashing light can trigger discomfort or seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Do not shine the flashlight directly into anyone's eyes, and never use it in a way that could distract drivers.
